ADB Mission visits Metro Station rehabilitation works
The Mission of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has made an official visit at the Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (MRDI). Executive Director of MDF Juansher Burchuladze, Deputy Executive Director of the Fund Davit Tabidze and ADB representatives have conducted the visit for rehabilitation works of “University” Metro Station.
Existing station will be rehabilitated within the project, in particular from Vazha Pshavela Avenue to the “University” Metro Station. The second tunnel between Delisi and Vazha-Pshavela Metro Stations will start operation as a result of project implementation. The project is being implemented by MDF with ADB funding and its cost amounts to GEL 83,000,670.45. Construction of the 23rd Metro Station of Tbilisi Metropolitan has been an inactive project for 22 years. Implementation of the referenced project will assist significantly to development of transport field in Georgia. Completion of construction of the second line of Tbilisi Metro Station will enable the citizens of Tbilisi City to move in a rapid and safe manner. The new metro station will relief the over ground vehicle flows and assist considerably to urban transport development.
There will be restored existing tunnels at total length of 2,6 km within the project. There will be constructed and arranged the underground and over ground structures of the station and ascents out of the Metro will be arranged on Vazha Pshavela Avenue and Sandro Euli Str. – 4 ascents in total. There will be installed the rail track lines, power sub-station, escalators, ventilation and drainage systems as well as fire management and firefighting systems. Standby ascends will also be arranged there.
Construction works are being implemented by Bidding Winner Spanish JV “KOBRA ASSIGNIA”.
Design for the Metro Station had been developed by Spanish Consulting Company “Euro Studio” and it was expertized as per Georgian Legislation.
Moreover the project has been evaluated by an independent Italian expert. Project details have been agreed with Tbilisi Transport Company.
Tbilisi Metro was opened in 1966. Nowadays it comprises 2 lines at total length of 56 km. There operate 22 stations in total in the capital to date and new 23rd Metro Station of modern standards will be added to the referenced number upon construction completion.
The works were commenced in May 2015 and will be finalized in May 2017.
