Tbilisi-Rustavi highway construction is in final phase
Construction of Tbilisi-Rustavi highway is in final phase, by the end current year highway construction on first and third sections will be finalized, by spring 2016 installation of external lighting system and also construction of secondary road will be finalized. Construction of the highway with length of 17.4 km is implemented by MDF and cost amounts to GEL 96 685 218.40. After project completion journey from Tbilisi to Rustavi will take 15 minutes and movement will become more safe and comfortable. Today civil works were visited by MDF executive director and ADB mission representative.
Construction of first and third sections of Tbilisi-Rustavi highway commenced in April 22, 2014, more than 300 persons are hired on works including locals.
Earth works are already finalized on the first section both on right and left directions. Construction of artificial structures is finalized as well in particular culverts and arrangement of asphalt concrete pavement on both direction is in progress. On left direction asphalt concrete pavement with length of 3,5 km has already been arranged and 3 km on right.
Totally, on both direction asphalt concrete pavement with length of 8 km has already been arranged. Arrangement of five bridges and one transport nodal point is finalized. Construction of artificial structure on third section of the project is finalized. Totally 12 km concrete pavement was arranged on both direction of the road, also construction of five bridges is finalized. Three pedestrian bridges and three transport nodal points are arranged. In addition road limiting, foot paths ( sidewalks), external lighting network and road landscaping works are in progress.
It is noteworthy that original project( developed in 2011-2012) did not envisage external lighting network and local roads arrangement, which represents significant defect of design. Absence of internal roads made serious problem for the population living on adjacent territory. MDF based on coordination with ADB made a decision and introduced appropriate amendment in design, which increased contract price and amount composed GEL 96 685 218.40 instead of GEL 88 761 128, 96.
Tbilisi-Rustavi highway construction project is financed by government of Georgia and Asian Development Bank and envisages international significance Tbilisi-Red bridge motorway Tbilisi-Rustavi section modernization (border of republic of Azerbaijan).
Length of the highway is 17,4 km. Design road and accordingly activities are divided into three sections: First section – from long-distance station to restaurant “ Marabda” with length of 4 km. cross section of the road is 6 line, length of each line -3,5 m, width of lane line 6 m. sidewalks are arranged on both sides of the road with width of 2,5 -3.0 m. road pavement is of cement concrete.
Second section- Phonichala settlement – tentative length is 6,8 km. Urban type new bypass construction along river “Mtkvari” with length of 2 km is planned. Cross section of the road is 4 line width of each line is 3. 75 m. road pavement is of cement- concrete.
Third section – From gas station “Sokar” at the exit of Phonichala settlement to Rustavi car market with length of 6.6 km. cross section of the road is 4 line, each with width of 3,75 m , lane line width is 6 m and cement concrete road pavement.
