500 Persons Employed in the Tourism Sector Retrained in Kakheti Region with Efforts of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia
With the World Bank financial support, the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia has retrained 500 persons employed in the tourism sector in Kakheti Region. Today, in Kakheti Region and namely in Tsinandali, the Deputy Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, Davit Tabidze, World Bank Program Leader for Sustainable Development in the South Caucasus, Ahmed Eiweida, and Director of McInerney Hospitality International LLC, Joseph A. McInerney have issued certificates to the persons, which underwent special trainings in the field of tourism.
The program implementation has significantly contributed to capacity building of the staff throughout Kakheti Region. The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia is performing cultural and touristic infrastructure rehabilitation works countrywide. The Fund is interested not only in arrangement of serviceable infrastructure for the tourists, but also in employment of qualified personnel at every cultural heritage site, which will provide high quality services for the visitors and tourists. To this effect, the Fund has financed trainings for the staff of tourism industry. As a result of the named trainings, currently we have 500 qualified persons operating in Kakheti Region, which is of great importance for regional development of Kakheti and its economic strengthening.
Issuance of certificates to the retrained staff was conducted under the training program financed by the World Bank and the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, which involved “Consultancy services for development and capacity building of the staff operating in tourism sector in Kakheti Region”. The project was implemented by the “Joint Venture of McInerney Hospitality International LLC and Key Management Solutions LLC” within the period of May 2014 – November 2015, inclusive. Trainings were conducted in all municipalities of Kakheti, in particular – in Lagodekhi, Kvareli, Gurjaani, Telavi, Akhmeta, Sagarejo, Sighnaghi and Dedoplistskaro.
500 participants region-wise were retrained in the main occupations of tourist and hospitality industries. With this purpose in mind, certified courses of American Hotel and Lodging Association Educational Institute were translated into Georgian language. The trainings included theoretical as well as practical exercises.
