Over 3000 Residents in Three Villages At the demarcation line to Have 24-hour Water Supply
Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (MRDI) with the financial support of the World Bank is carrying out rehabilitation of water supply system in the three villages at the demarcation line, in particular, Gori municipality villages Zeda Nikozi, Kveda Nikozi, and Zemo Khviti. Project cost is GEL3,386,397.86. Mr. Ilia Darchiashvili, Executive Director of MDF and representatives of local governments inspected the ongoing construction works today. As a result of the project, 880 households i.e. over 3000 persons in the three villages will be provided uninterrupted water supply.
It is worth noting that the villages Zeda Nikozi, Kveda Nikozi, and Zemo Khviti are located at so called demarcation line. therefore, it is important that people affected by 2008 military conflict will have 24-hour water supply and a problem they faced over the years will be solved that will improve their living conditions. Over 40 persons are involved in the construction. At present there are 9 wells in the three villages, some of them are out of order and contaminated. The project implementation will ensure improvement of water quality and existed water supply schedule will be changed into uninterrupted supply.
Rehabilitation of 39 km water supply chain is planned, polyethylene and metal pipes will be installed with pipe branching with total length 13.2 km. Five water well will be made and a new storage reservoir (1,000 m3 ) and pumping station are to be constructed. In addition, 880 water meter points will be installed.
